Quilting Group

On a quiet day in February 2023, these women (plus a couple more) created something beautiful to give away.

Useful Hands Quilters, 2022
After a long 2020 layoff, the group is back at work, gathering once a month to tie quilts.
Love the fall colors!

Quilts have been created and hand-tied at Wayne Zion for many years. In the past they were put on display before being given away.

This dedicated group of women works to serve various ministries and organizations in Eastern Iowa by donating their quilts for use by people in need. The list of non-profit organizations served includes Bremwood, Waypoint, Crossroads, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and EWALU Bible Camp, serving at-risk youth, women, families, and the homeless, plus quilts for the giving tree at our church which are given to a number of families at Christmas. They have also provided quilts or lap robes to hospitalized members of our congregation.

Wayne Zion’s quilting group, also known as Useful Hands, meets in the morning on the second Tuesday of each month. New people are always welcome, to continue this ministry for many more years. Sewing skills are not required; much of the work is selecting colors, cutting material and hand-tying the squares.
